    • Mini City Council

There are 40 different school involved in the Mini Council. We are put into 5 different committees. This year our school’s councillors were on the Welfare Committee and the Special Projects Committee. The Welfare committee does projects such as collecting Easter Eggs, blankets, mealie meal. The Special Projects do shadowing waiters at Spur. They organise all the extra projects done in the year.

There are some events were we all get together and help the underprivileged. We make sandwiches, cupcakes and tea.

We have paired up with Reach for a Dream and held a function called Princess for a day. We each had a friend for the day from the foundation. We did each other’s make up, decorated cupcakes etc. These girls have never experienced anything in their lives like this.

We have gone to Soweto and helped out the African Feeding Scheme. There were 150 children waiting for us since 08h00 in the morning to have their first proper meal for the month. We made peanut butter sandwiches and hot chocolate. All the councillors played games with them which were they most delighted to do. They did our hair because it was such a different texture compared to their own. Before we left we gave them oranges and Easter eggs.

The welfare committee does all the big collections. This year we had the Eater E.g. distribution, the Blankets for “Jozi the knit a thon”. We are currently preparing for the mealie meal drive. Different organizations are invited to come and be a recipient for the drives. They take what we have collected and feed it to children whose families can’t afford a decent meal. The Easter egg drive is our biggest collection. We have about 40 charities take the Easter eggs. These eggs go to children who have never tasted a sweet in their whole life.

We have learnt how to appreciate the smallest things in our lives as we are so fortunate. We have so much and others don’t get what we can get any other day. Helping the underprivileged has been an unforgettable experience.
